Octopus Caught While Kayak Fishing

Bryce hooked into a which he originally believed was a snag. I had the ability to get some pretty sweet undersea shots while it was beside his . The was kept and enjoyed. It swallowed a pretty large hook so its survival was not likely. I utilized a () to film this.

This animal was not lost. Its sacrifice was well appreciated among those that did eat it. I'm not a biologist of any kind, however an easy search on the internet shows that octopuses are not a rare animal. In fact, there is proof that suggests they are overpopulated in their range. They have a life-span of 3 to 5 years so I'm thinking because of its size that this one was nearing completion of that period. So, I would rather it be killed quickly and not wasted than it be set free to suffer and starve for the last year approximately of its life with a 6 inch hook in its mouth.

  1. Rule #1 (when fishing) – fish from shore, dock or pier – but when you can’t, make sure you fish from a vessel LARGER than the critter from below that you are catching, or that might come and visit you (even if you didn’t plan on catching him). Lot to be said for wire cutters, in a moment like that.

    1. hehe gotta agree 🙂 i’ve never caught a octopus but it seemed alittle to calm imo knowing from most fish i would expect it too atleast put up a fight 😛

  4. Hard to believe these giant Octopus only have a 3 to 5 year lifespan. Growing pretty quick to get to this giant size. Talk about a Calamari feast! 🙂

  5. I had no idea an octopus even knew HOW to kayak, it’s a strange old world.

  6. How does a person unhook one of those without hurting it and/or vice versa?

  7. I was so amazed to the unique octopus sitting there. I’m not so familiar with 🐙 octopi. I would barely think that an octopus would even come up to the surface. I am happy for your lucky find. That is probably a once in a lifetime chance to find an octopus.

BTW, whoever is scrolling through the comments, have a nice and happy day/night!

  8. Awesome man you caught a octopus someday I need to go fishing for octopus. 🐙🐙🐙🐙🐙🐙

  9. I did the same thing. I was cleaning my days catch of Salmon and placed a herring on the bottom. A GPO grabbed it. No line was taken out. The rod was pulled all the way over and whatever was on the other end was heavy. It was a six footer. I had to put the Octo in the fish box to get the hook out. If you’ve never handled an adult Octopus, don’t! Squishiest thing ever. I felt like I had to be damaging its brain.

  10. Nice to meet you!
I was surprised! Such a big size! ️Pacific giant octopus female?

  11. Hey Rawkfish, loved your video, I find these creatures awesome. I’ve always been told that these creatures only live in salt water; but it seems there are some exceptions that are recently discovered as some kind of mutants to fresh water. Tell me was this a lake/river of fresh or salt water and where was it at ?
